WWII American Cemetery & Intramuros

We did some sight seeing last weekend. Our awesome driver took us to a cemetery maintained by the US embassy commemorating soldiers that died in WWII in the Asia Pacific region. Way too many names of lost lives!

Then we visited the old Spanish walled city Intramuros. Beautiful!

And I found a little kitten playing in the rubble.

Then to Rizal Park. You'll have to look up the story of Jose Rizal. Here's where he was shot. (Not sure our faces reflected the right mood)

Art bought some of the national flowers. Beautiful and fragrant.

More to come once Daniel arrives. So many cool things to see and do here! We're meeting a local brother for dinner tomorrow, and he will help us visit the branch. Jehovah's organization really takes care of you!

Beautiful Makati

So, now that I've finally somewhat acclimated to working at night, I can appreciate the beautiful sun and greenery, instead of trying to hide from the light to sleep.

This photo is from my balcony. It's really beautiful here. So much green. Palm trees line the streets and spring up from between houses. The temperature, while in the 80s & 90s, and pretty humid, is offset by how beautiful everything is to look at.

There are definitely downsides to such a huge city with a lot of poverty. I'm sure that will hit me later. I hope to join the friends in service soon.

I had McDonald's for lunch last night, they serve fried chicken there! Wasn't half bad. In the US, a typical side is French fries or bread. Here, a typical side dish is spaghetti! Complete with marinara sauce! That doesn't really make sense in my head :). Here's to new a fun cultures!

Sunrise!

Sunrise from my room!

Day 3

So, it's 3:30am and I'm awake, but that's good! Prepping for working at night. We start tonight, Monday. Yesterday morning we went to the Makati English congregation, was wonderful. They have a Persian group and a Hindi group there. I totally wouldn't expect to find persons from Iran living on an Asian island!

I absolutely love being a witness, as they really made us feel like family! Stephanie and I hope to meet them for service soon.

It's hot here, in the mid 90's and very humid. I'm sweating, but my skin looks great :). Love the moisture in the air!

I'll attach some photos soon.

Finishing up travel planning.

Wow, only 9 days to go! Wow! I'm super excited, but super nervous as well. Go figure. I'm going to miss my family and friends, Bible students, and kittens. Especially will I miss Daniel, but he'll be joining me two weeks afterward. I'm excited to try living outside the country. Hopefully this will prepare us for need greater work abroad.
